From the time of the Revolutionary War, the City has celebrated George Washington's birthday with parades, performances, and dances. In 1976, the present George Washington Birthday Celebration Committee was formed to organize and carry out the City’s annual celebration.

Its members are appointed by the Alexandria City Council and include representatives from the American Legion, the Masonic Fraternity, the City of Alexandria Pipe and Drums, the Gadsby’s Tavern Museum Society, the Friendship Veterans Fire Engine Association, the City of Alexandria Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the First Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line, an Alexandria City High School Student, citizen members who are veterans, and the citizens of Alexandria at large.

Starting in mid-2018, all meetings are now held at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial at 101 Callahan Drive, Alexandria, VA 22301, on the third Monday of every month, except January when we meet on the second Monday, and February when we meet on the first Monday. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. The citizens of Alexandria are welcome to attend these meetings.
